I am starting a small business in Western New York.

The business name I want is currently being used in Illinois.

Can I still use this business name?

I will be starting a small business soon and was looking into names and found one of a similar name in another state. I did not know the legalities behind this question.

I’m looking for a good book which has great detail on starting a small business with quickbooks as the bookkeeping/accounting software. All I have been able to find are books on running a business or using quickbooks, but no luck with both in the same book. My hope is that I’ll get valuable information if the book is aimed at both of these concepts and not just one.

I am starting a small business, and on the form to register my DBA, it wants me to check either "trade name" and indicate when I first used it, or "fictitious name". How do I know which one to check? The instructions aren’t much help.

I’m starting a small business and everyone says I want to have an S Corp. The first step is to submit the Application for Reservation of Name. Where do I find that? I’ve heard I needed to fill it out with the state only and with the federal government only from different people. Which is it? I’m in the state of Illinois. Thank you.
